How TMS can help

Depression

“I was about to give up. I had tried anti-depressants before, but the side effects were so awful, I never wanted to take it again. Thankfully, I had a friend who told me about TMS. It helped my depression, anxiety, and PTSD. TMS saved my life.”

Our Technology
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy

What Fires Together,
Wires Together

In Neuroscience, we have a saying: "What Fires Together, Wires Together."

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy, TMS, targets specific brain regions that are underactive in Major Depressive Disorder. Repeated TMS (rTMS) induces these neurons to fire again, reconnect with other neurons in that particular circuit, and restore function, thereby alleviating depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms.

TMS is an FDA-Approved, non-invasive, painless, and drug-free option for the treatment of a wide range of neuropsychiatric conditions.

The equipment used for TMS treatment is FDA-cleared. It generates highly focused, magnetic waves that allow us to gently stimulate specifically targeted areas of the brain. TMS Treatment protocols are FDA Approved for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Anxious Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). TMS has also seen incredible success in improving off-label conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries, Concussions, Sleep Disorders, and many more.

Non-invasive

TMS is pain-free and non-invasive, with no serious systemic side effects.

FDA Cleared

We only use equipment that has been cleared by the FDA.

Drug-Free

TMS is a drug-free treatment that uses electromagnetic pulses to retrain brain activity.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy, TMS, targets specific brain regions that are underactive in Depression. Repeated TMS gets these neurons to fire again, reconnect with other neurons in that particular circuit, and restore function, alleviating depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms.

Step 1

Evaluate

We typically conduct a 10-15 minute phone consultation to determine if you have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) by a psychiatrist, see how many antidepressants you've tried, verify that you've tried talk therapy before, answer any questions you may have, and to make sure you don't have any contraindications to TMS.

If you meet the criteria for TMS, we'll initiate the paperwork for obtaining a prior-authorization from your insurance carrier.

Step 2

Mapping

Once it has been determined that you are a candidate for TMS and we have obtained a prior-authorization from your insurance carrier, we'll schedule your initial TMS Mapping and first treatment session. During this initial mapping, we'll determine your motor threshold via thumb twitch and treatment target. Once determined, we can deliver your first treatment right away. All TMS treatment parameters are approved by a licensed physician.

Step 3

Treatment

While sitting comfortably, a trained TMS technician will position the magnetic coil on your head. This coil will deliver your individualized treatment protocol to the targeted region of the brain. For depression, the target is typically the dorso-lateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Based on your personal motor threshold, treatment times can range from as little as 3 minutes using the theta-burst protocol, to as long as 20 minutes.

During this time, the technician will also ask you symptom questions and conduct an assessment of progress using the PHQ-9 (depression), GAD-7(anxiety), and PCL-C (PTSD, if applicable) questionnaires.

Step 4

Evaluate Progress

During the course of your TMS treatment, we monitor your symptom progress and will make adjustments, if necessary, in order to assure the best possible outcome. A typical course of TMS is typically 6 weeks, Monday through Friday, for the first 30 sessions, followed by a taper period of 3 weeks for the final 6 sessions. Similar to a medication regimen, we want to wean you off of daily TMS gradually.

*We do offer accelerated TMS to self-pay patients since it is not yet covered by insurance plans. The accelerated course typically involves 10 sessions a day for 5 days and has demonstrated excellent outcomes.
